Energy support

A person uses an average of about 10 percent of their daily energy use digesting and absorbing food. However, the type of food effects how much energy it takes to digest. For example, protein takes the most energy to digest (20 percent to 30 percent of total calories in protein eaten are used to digest it); then carbohydrates (5 percent to 10 percent); and, finally, fats (0 percent to 3 percent).

Using enzymes to aid in digestion can allow one's body to conserve energy to be used for activities other than digestion.
