Gliadin/SOD

Description:

SOD/Gliadin is a water-soluble form of Super Oxide Dismutase enriched lyophilized extract from Cucumis melo, encapsulated with gliadin. SOD is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of two molecules of the superoxide anion to one molecule of oxygen and one molecule of hydrogen peroxide. Superoxide anions are highly reactive forms of oxygen formed during many normal catalytic functions of cellular activity.

Activity:

The activity of this SOD preparation is measured in IUs, where 1 micromole of substrate is affected per minute. The assay methodology has been developed specifically for this material and involves gel electrophoresis separation followed by stain derivatization. Potency is then extrapolated by comparing the intensity of the appropriate band with a known SOD standard, which was concomitantly analyzed.

Applications:

SOD is used within the Dietary Supplement Industry as an antioxidant.

One year with proper storage (cool and dry).
