The beta-glucanase enzyme used in National Enzyme Company products represents a standardized side activity of a food grade cellulase complex obtained through the fermentation of Trichoderma longibrachiatum. Beta-glucanase acts on the interior 1,4-be- ta-glucosidic bonds of beta glucans containing mixed 1,3- and 1,4-bonds.
One FCC Beta-Glucanase Unit (BGU) is defined as the amount of beta-glucanase that will degrade barley beta-glucan to reducing carbohydrates with a reduction power corresponding to 1 μmol glucose/min at pH 7.5 and 30° C.
Beta-glucanase is typically utilized in the food and alcohol industry to reduce the viscosity of barley, malt, rice, rye and other cereal grains. In the dietary supplement industry, it is used as a digestive aid to help in the digestion of anti-nutritive oligosaccharides.
To maintain optimum enzyme activity, this product should be stored in a cool, dry place in a tightly sealed container. When properly stored, this product can be expected to lose less than 10% of its activity in twelve months.
